Can you introduce yourself and describe what you do
My name is Charlotte, and I am a bit of a jack of all trades. I tend to see something I like and think, oh I can make that easy! So I end up with a list of hobbies/skills as long as my arm from; Millinery, pattern cutting, sewing, drawing/painting, leather work, carpentry and even a little gardening. I would like to think that I would be useful come an apocalypse.

Have you always been a maker?
Always! I wasn't the most conventional of children, but I was creative. Even then, I would make furniture from sticks and leaves for the fairies in the garden! Thankfully I have moved on from fairy furniture to more useful makes. I also come from a very creative family, which I feel has definatly (struggling to nail that word!) helped along the way.

What draws you towards your craft?
Primarily its because my budget doesn't match my taste, so I have ago at making the things I want instead.

How would you describe your aesthetic and how did you develop your style?
I don't know that I can really. I don't fit into a particular style/craft label or box. I tend to pick and mix things I like at the time.

Where does your inspiration come from?
Anywhere and everywhere

Who are your design heroes?
I'm quite bad in that I don't follow any designers or trends. I do tend to focus on function and purpose, I think it's very easy to make something that is 'pretty' but I feel it is really important to focus purpose/ function first.

How long does it take to make a piece and what’s involved?
Really that's like asking me how long is a piece of string! Ha

Can you describe your workspace? Where is it and what is in it?
I am in the process of finishing my new studio, that I built. So eventually that will be my workspace, which is hidden amongst the trees in my garden. It will be crammed from floor to ceiling with all sorts I'm sure.

Is there anything in your workspace that you couldn’t live without?
Given that I have migrated to the garden, I absolutely could not live without my heater!

What’s the best thing about living a creative life?
The best thing I think, is always having options. There is never a dead end.

What would you say to someone thinking about selling and/or collaborating with other creatives?
I would say do it, there is no harm in trying. My mum likes to say, 'you have to speculate to accumulate'.
